Brich Drive Shooting Suspect Turns Himself In

On July 4, Lafayette Police were dispatched to an apartment complex in the 300 block of Birch Drive around 6:50 p.m.

Officers say the victim intervened in a verbal altercation between his mother and the suspect. At that time, the suspect produced a handgun and allegedly shot the victim in the left thigh. The suspect then fled the scene into the apartment complex.

The victim, a 39 year old male of Lafayette, was transported to an area hospital with a non-life threatening injuries.

On July 5, the suspect, Taylor Hebert, turned himself in, and was arrested for Aggravated Battery by Firearm. Hebert was booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center.

The investigation remains ongoing.
