Both the prosecution and defense have rested their cases in the trial of Darby Frickey, a Morgan City man accused of the murder of Mark Berthelot.
Closing arguments are slated to begin at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday in the 16th District Courthouse in Franklin.
After the prosecution had rested its case about 4 p.m. Wednesday afternoon, according to sources within the courthouse, the defense admitted into evidence a 2008 hospital admission of the victim for a reported meth overdose.
Deputies, following Frickey's December 2011 arrest, had reported that Berthelot's death resulted from a fight between the two men.
Courtroom observers speculate that the new admission may figure into a possible "self-defense" or "stand-your-ground" strategy.
