BJACH offers variety of health care services for annual Retiree Appreciation Day

FORT POLK, La. - Bayne-Jones Army community Hospital will offer a variety of health care services to retirees during its Health Fair as part of Fort Polk's 38th Annual Retiree Appreciation Day Saturday, October 26, 2013.

BJACH will provide all medical services at the hospital from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. The second floor entrance B will be open for easy access and plenty of free parking is available. All retirees and their eligible family members are asked to check in and present their ID cards upon arrive at BJACH.

Flu and pneumonia shots will be available as well as the Tdap - Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertusis (Whooping Cough) vaccine for adults. The Center for Disease Control recommends the Tdap vaccine for adults, ages 19-64 who are healthcare workers, caregivers of infants, including parents, grandparents or babysitters, women who just gave birth and who have never received Tdap and people who travel to countries where pertusis is common.

Medical services will include wellness prevention screenings for diabetes, Asthma, cholesterol, hypertension and glucose. Retirees wanting to have their glucose checked are asked not to eat prior to getting the test. Several stations will provide helpful information on health topic such as nutrition, food safety, stress reduction, good hand hygiene and more. The American Red Cross will promote their services and recruit volunteers.

A variety of cancer screening will also be available - colorectal, breast, Chlamydia and cervical. Retirees will also be able to make future appointments to have these procedures done.

The Eyes, Ear Nose and Throat Clinic, EENT, will provide cataract and glaucoma screenings.

Information booths on Men's health; Women's health, Smoking Cessation (sign up for classes); Physical Therapy. Occupational Therapy; HIV information; HEDIS and wellness assessments; TRICARE Options - Health Benefits advisor, Behavioral Health and Dental services will be set up
Retirees and their beneficiaries will be able to receive and renew their Other Health Information (OHI) cards during the fair. OHI cards provide verification that beneficiaries have a valid DD Form 2569 - Third Party Collection Program, Record of Other Health Insurance - in their medical records. Providing BJACH with this information will not increase insurance premiums nor incur a cost to beneficiaries; it will only enhance BJACH's capability to deliver quality medical care.

BJACH's Outpatient Pharmacy will be from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. All refill prescriptions must be called in at least 48 hours prior to be picked up on this Saturday. To call in refills, plead dial 337-531-DRUG (3784) and follow the instructions. A representative from Express Scripts will be on-site to sign up and register beneficiaries for Home Delivery (Main Order Pharmacy). Information on anti-virals and other medications will also be available.

Saturday is also National Prescription Take-Back Day. Everyone is encouraged to clean out their medicine cabinet because there will be a collection box at BJACH near the 2ndd floor information desk where retirees or any beneficiary can drop off their old, unused or expired medications. These medications do not have to be prescriptions; over-the-counter medications will also be accepted for safe disposal by the Drug Enforcement Agency.
BJACH's Ask-A-Doc Program will offer retirees an opportunity to speak with a physician. A representative from the VA Clinic will also be available to answer questions and talk about services available at the clinic on hwy 467.

Dentists will be on hand in the newly renovated BJACH 6th floor Dental Clinic to provide free dental exams consisting of an oral cancer screening and intraoral exams to determine any major or minor dental problems. Screenings will last about 5-10 minutes. Panoramic X-rays to screen for bone cancer and get an overall radiologic assessment will also be available.

BJACH's Dining Facility is also servicing a special Retiree Day lunch from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Menu choices will include: Country Fried Steak baked Tilapia, mashed potatoes, steamed rice, gravy, California blend, peas and carrots and cookies. BJACH's dining facility is cash only, ala carte facility.
