A packing mistake in a popular birth control pill could pose as a big problem for women. Wednesday Pfizer recalled a few types after company officials said some of the pills were packaged incorrectly.
UMC Gynecologist, Darryl Elias, said "when you are supposed to be taking 21 active pills, you may by accident be taking a sugar pill, so your hormone level will drop and you'll ovulate."
It means you might be pregnant. If you've been taking these pills, Lo/ Ovral 28 or the generic tablets, Norgestrel and Ethinyl Estradiol visit this website http://www.fda.gov/Safety/Recalls/ucm289770.htm to see if your pills made the recall list and if they did Dr. Elias said, "either wait for their period to start and begin a new pack or take a pregnancy test and start a new pack."
The best thing you can do if you think you've been taking one of these birth control pills is to go to your pharmacist and see what you can do next and they'll dispose of the pills for you.
Pharmacist at Acadiana Prescription Shop, Joel Fruge, said, "we'll have some sort of information for them or the manufacturers will give us some kind of instruction."
The good news is this isn't the most commonly prescribed oral contraceptive, but Elias said there's still plenty of Acadiana doctors who prescribe it.
"It was a lot more popular 10 years ago, but I think its still being used today," he said.
