NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Gov. Bobby Jindal's coastal protection chief says Jindal will not reappoint two key members of a southeast Louisiana flood control board because of the board's lawsuit against the oil and gas industry.
Garret Graves made the statement after a Friday meeting of an independent panel assembled to nominate members of the Southeast Louisiana Flood Protection Authority-East. Graves and Jindal have both made it clear they are unhappy with the lawsuit. Graves told the nominating panel that the suit is hurting, rather than helping the state's coastal restoration efforts.
Board president Tim Doody and member John Barry, whose terms expired in June, have applied for second terms on the flood authority, but Graves said Friday Jindal will not re-appoint them - even if the panel nominates them.
