The LSU Eunice softball team tallied 26 hits over a doubleheader sweep of visiting Holmes Community College on Tuesday afternoon, winning both games 8-0 while holding the visitors to just two hits total in the wins.
Destin Vicknair and Raven Cole each collected their 19th win of the season, as the two are now tied for the most victories in the country in that category. Vicknair allowed just two hits while striking out six Holmes batters in her win, while Cole tallied her third no-hitter of the season in the second game, striking out eight batters while walking four in the win.
"The pitchers attack the zone. They keep us in ballgames when sometimes we get complacent offensively and don't play to our abilities. In the first game we left a lot of runners on base, which could hurt us down the road," head coach Andy Lee said.
The first game saw the Lady Bengals (43-1) collect six extra-base hits, as Codi Covington, Taylor Boulet (double), Emily Nolan (double, 2 RBIs), Ashley Subervielle (double, RBI), Dani Cruickshank (triple, RBI)and Vicknair (2 doubles, 2 RBIs) all finished with two hits, as Brooklynn Clark (1-2, 2 walks) also added an RBI. Carey Alexis and Morgan Tauzin each added a hit as well.
LSU Eunice jumped ahead early with an RBI single from Clark and back-to-back RBI doubles from Nolan and Vicknair in the bottom of the first inning to take the lead before Cruickshank tripled to leadoff the third inning and scored on a passed ball to push the lead higher.
Nolan added an RBI single in the fourth frame, while Subervielle's run-scoring double game in the fifth. Vicknair's RBI double followed by a run-scoring sacrifice fly from Cruickshank wrapped the game up early in the sixth.
The second game saw Nolan and Clark lead the way, as Clark notched two doubles and three RBIs while Nolan collected four RBIs on a double and home run. Codi Covington and Alexis (double) also finished with two hits each, while Boulet, Katie Flowers (double) and Alexa Thibodeaux (double, RBI) each tallied one hit.
Clark brought home the first run with her RBI double in the opening inning, followed up moments later by Nolan's two-run double. Clark collected her second double of the game in the third, scoring two runs, before Nolan sent a two-run homer over the left field wall to push the lead to seven.
The margin would remain the same until the sixth, when Thibodeaux closed out the afternoon with her pinch hit, RBI double into the left-center field gap.
The Lady Bengals are back in action on Saturday afternoon when they host San Jacinto Community College in a doubleheader set for a 1 p.m. start.
Saturday's doubleheader can be seen on Bengal All-Access.
