The LSU Eunice baseball team rallied back from a six run deficit for a 13-7 midweek victory over visiting Panola College Tuesday night, using a five-run sixth inning to take the lead for good and notch the win.
The Bengals (25-7) saw Panola (20-11) post six runs via six hits in the top of the third inning to break open a scoreless game before responding back with three runs of their own in the bottom of the third.
LSU Eunice cut deeper into the lead with a single run in the fourth before each team tallied a run in the fifth. The Bengals took the lead in the sixth on five hits and added to the advantage with a three-run eighth frame.
Stefan Trosclair paced the offense with a 4-for-5 night at the plate, collecting a double while scoring twice, while Kyle St. Pierre and Tyler Chapman each finished with three hits and an RBI apiece.
Jordan Romero tallied two hits and two RBIs, while Brennan Bozeman, Madison Nickens (triple, RBI), Mason Nickens (2 RBIs), Ray Veit (RBI) and Gabe Roberts (RBI) all collected a hit and Derek Herrington (0-5) contributed an RBI as well.
Ryan Domingue, the third Bengal pitcher of the night, earned his second win of the season after tossing 1 2/3 scoring innings, allowing just one hit while striking out one.
Starter Nick Hartman did not factor into the decision, going just 2 2/3 innings, allowing six hits and six runs before Zack Hamilton came on in relief to give LSU Eunice three innings (4 hits, 1 run, 3 strikeouts) as they began the comeback.
After seeing Panola plate six runs in the top of the third inning, the Bengals responded with RBI singles from St. Pierre and Chapman, as well as a run-scoring groundout by Mason Nickens, in the bottom of the frame to cut into the deficit before Madison Nickens' RBI triple pulled the hosts to within one in the bottom of the fourth.
The visitors plated a run in the top of the fifth before Romero's RBI single in the bottom of the fifth again brought the score within two runs and set up the sixth inning that saw RBI singles from Mason Nickens and Veit as well as an RBI groundout from Herrington and runs scoring when Chapman was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and a Romero bases loaded walk.
LSU Eunice tallied three final insurance runs in the eighth, the first coming on two separate Panola throwing errors before Roberts connected on his RBI single later in the frame.
