The Better Business Bureau of Acadiana celebrating 35 years of local service has announced their 17th Annual Awards Program Awards to be held on October 29, 2009. At this year's event Mr. Joey Durel, Lafayette City/ Parish President, will be our guest speaker. Mr. Durel is certainly no stranger to the Lafayette Community. He is in his second term as Lafayette City/Parish President. He is a 1975 graduate from UL-Lafayette in with a degree in Business Administration. His 27+ years of business experience, as well as his entrepreneurial spirit, have led him into several business ventures, as well as being named Chairman of the Board of the Greater Lafayette Chamber of Commerce. He is also a graduate of Leadership Lafayette Class X and Leadership Louisiana.
The Awards program is to promote not only the importance of ethical business practices, but also the willingness and efforts made by outstanding businesses to ensure that our marketplace remains fair and honorable for everyone, both members and non-members. The mission of the Better Business Bureau is to be the leader in advancing marketplace trust. BBB accomplishes this mission by:
· Creating a community of trustworthy businesses
· Setting standards for marketplace trust
· Encouraging and supporting best practices
· Celebrating marketplace role models, and;
· Denouncing substandard marketplace behavior

Presented annually since 1992, The BBB serving the Acadiana area has revealed the finalists for their 17th Annual Better Business Bureau Awards Program. Awards and finalists for each category include:
Integrity Award - is awarded to business that has gained the respect of the community through programs that promotes ethical business principles. Finalists are: John Chance Survey, Chick fil A, Global Data Systems, Scott Physical Therapy, All States Building systems and Bixenman Richardson Chiropractic.
Outstanding New Business-is awarded to the new business (established less than three years) that has demonstrated an overall success in commitment to customer service, marketing, advertising, communications and sales practices which reflect a true representation of what is being offered in the marketplace. Finalists are: Benoit Roofing, Lemon Drop and Investment Partners of Acadiana.
Customer Commitment Award-is awarded to the business that has an outstanding customer service program and exceeds customer expectations in the Acadiana area. Finalists are: First National Bank of Louisiana, Capitol One and Chic-fil- A.
Good Neighbor Award-is awarded to the business (and its employees) that plays a significant role in the mission(s) of local charities that support programs, service, donations, in-kind, etc. in our community. Finalists are: Giles Automotive, Nu Nu's Fresh Market and Our Lady of Lourdes.
Non-profit of the Year- the program must have significantly impacted and directly affected the welfare of the Acadiana area by its mission. Entrants must provide proof of non-profit status in order to meet BBB standards for charitable organization. Finalists are: Boys and Girls Acadiana and Hospice of Acadiana.
The independent judging committee for the awards were: Neil Fontenot, Helm Financial Group; Tony Greco, UL Department of Economics; Vanessa Hill, UL Department of Management; David Ross, Ross Tires; Troy Southerland, Retired Postmaster with United Postal Service.
Winners will be announced at the Better Business Bureau Awards Program and Silent Auction on October 29, 2009 at River Oaks Conference Center.
