The community is invited to let the good times flow on Sunday, October 20 for Bayou Vermilion District's Bayou Vermilion Festival & Boat Parade at Vermilionville. This event aims to increase awareness of the river as a viable source of recreation for Lafayette Parish and also serves as a fundraiser for the Bayou Vermilion District's efforts along the Vermilion.
The festival will kick off at 10 a.m. with a public showing of antique putt-putt boats and engines at Vermilionville. Other activities throughout the day include various boating demonstrations such as babbitt pouring and wooden boat restoration techniques as well as community discussions with local organizations like the Bayou Vermilion District's River Crew, Lafayette Consolidated Government, the TECHE Project and a panel discussion on Louisiana boat building techniques.
There will also be a kid's corner with crafts such as cork boats, recycle planters, boat carving, homemade sidewalk chalk and more. Other activities for the day include canoeing with Pack and Paddle, cooking demonstrations and guided tours of BVD's rain garden, native plants and green house.
Live music will be provided throughout the day as well as a performance by Chubby Carries & The Bayou Swamp Band from 1 - 4 p.m. in the Performance Center.
Admission to the Festival will be $5 for adults, $3 for students and seniors and children 6 and under enter free.
The Boat Parade will be launching from Vermilionville at 3 p.m. with a sendoff hosted by this year's Grand Marshal.
The parade can be seenpassing thriough Vermilionville, Beaver Park, Rotary Point or at Ruffino's restaurant.

**A requested donation of $10 per person in the parade will go towards the Bayou Vermilion District's efforts to keep the river clean and viable as a source of recreation for the citizens of Lafayette Parish.
