Avoyelles Parish Jail Escapees Went On 2 Week Crime Spree

ALEXANDRIA, La. (AP) - Law enforcement agencies from Marksville
to Miami are examining crimes committed over the past two weeks,
including a case in which a woman's fingers were cut off, trying to
determine if they are linked to the three Avoyelles Parish Jail
Thursday's Town Talk reported that U.S. Marshals found the three
escapees - Quentin M. Truehill, 22, of New Orleans, Kentrell F.
Johnson, 39, of Marksville and Peter M. Hughes, 22, of Abbeville -
hiding out at a Miami motel and arrested them on Monday night.
Avoyelles Parish Sheriff Doug Anderson said the three escaped
from the jail around 1:40 a.m. March 30 after Truehill took a
correctional officer at knifepoint and forced him to open a door.
Police in Tallahassee, Fla., on Wednesday charged the three men
with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Investigators also
are in the process of filing robbery charges against the three in
connection with a robbery at a Walgreens.
They are also are suspected in the disappearance of 29-year-old
Vincent Binder, a Florida State University graduate student and
teaching assistant from Tallahassee who was last seen around 12:30
a.m. April 2.
"What I can say is that we have physical evidence that would
indicate that they are involved in the disappearance of Mr.
Binder," said Tallahassee Police spokesman Officer David McCranie,
although he wouldn't elaborate.
One of the inmates told Tallahassee investigators that they may
have been involved in Binder's disappearance, but the man refused
to give details.
Previously, Tallahassee Police reported that a review of
Binder's financial information and phone records showed suspicious
activities. But a U.S. Marshals Service spokesman said they did not
find Binder's driver's license, cell phone and credit or ATM cards
in the truck. Some identification found in the truck did have
Tallahassee information on it.
The two Tallahassee cases authorities are connecting to the men
occurred hours before Binder was last seen and occurred on the same
side of town near the FSU campus.
