A recent audit of the City of Ville Platte shows a number of internal control problems in several city agencies.
The audit, compiled by Kolder, Champagne, Slavin, and Company, found that some of the files in the city's Section 8 housing program lacked proper lease documents. The audit also found other tenant files did not contain documentation of determination of reasonable rent, while forms in other files lacked signatures.
The audit also found that the city's utility department has not shut down services to utility customers with delinquent debts. This, according to the audit, places the city in violation of its bond indenture.
The audit also says the city's police department fuel logs did not have the appropriate supervisory or officer initials next to some entries. The audit also stated that the police department did not provide proper documentation for several traffic tickets that were voided.
According to the audit, the Section 8 and police departments have taken corrective actions to fix their problems. However, the audit notes the utility department has not yet implemented any corrective actions.
