Evangeline Parish residents are holding their children a little tighter, after news of an attempted abduction. It happened nearly two weeks ago in the Turkey Creek area near the Mount Bayou Lake Boy Scout Camp.
So far, no statement from law enforcement about what went on and if residents should be on guard.
Neighbor Andrey Guilbeau, said "we actually had an event going on the day it happened. We had 250 people back there."
Guilbeau's house is inside the gates leading into the boy scout camp. He was at home when he heard the news of an attempted abduction about two miles up the road.
He heard "a suspicious vehicle and a suspicious person and a man in the woods tried to abduct a little boy."
Neighbors aren't sure how many suspects or victims were involved. Guilbeau said a vehicle pulled up and attempted to snatch a child who was in front of his own house. He was not a boy scout and not involved with the camp.
"It's surprising because everyone knows everybody here," Guilbeau said. "They say the people that attempted to abduct this little boy are not from here."
The Evangeline Parish Sheriff's Office is looking into this case, but investigators say they won't release any information to the media until it's appropriate. The only thing they could confirm is that an incident has been reported.
We confirmed the information with city hall and with residents who lived nearby.
