NEW ORLEANS (AP) - New Orleans police say a sharp sense of smell led them to an alleged marijuana business operating from an apartment.
According to the department, someone called police this past weekend after smelling burning marijuana somewhere in the caller's neighborhood.
After an investigation, officers closed in on an apartment and a man tried to flee. Police say the man was apprehended and a discarded backpack containing two brown bags and a container stuffed with marijuana was recovered - along with $512 in cash.
Police say a search of the apartment turned up 165 marijuana plants growing under heat lamps. The marijuana is valued at about $50,000.
Police booked 45-year-old Troy Ray with possession with intent to distribute marijuana and other drug charges. It couldn't be determined if he has an attorney.
