Acadiana Man Raising Money for Mission in Haiti

A Lafayette man is asking for your help raising money for a mission in Haiti. He says another Lafayette native, Megan Boudreaux, inspired him.

Two years ago, Boudreaux volunteered in Haiti to help in the aftermath of the catastrophic earthquake that claimed thousands of lives. She returned last year to help build a school.

Two years ago, Paul Miller started running to lose weight.
Once he shed the pounds he wanted to run for a cause.

"Anybody that knows I run now laughs about it because I wasn't a runner," said Miller.

He says he was inspired by Megan Boudreaux's work in Haiti and adopted her mission. When he's not working at Deano's, he's training for the Disney marathon in January, donating all the money to Respire Haiti.

"She made the ultimate sacrifice to sell everything and move out there to help local kids."

Miller says training for the marathon hasn't been easy, but one thing keeps him motivated.

"To see the kids and to see their struggles, to know I'm running for a cause definitely helps to motivate me to push me further than I think I can go."

So far, dozens have pledged to donate money each mile Miller runs. He hopes the generosity of the community will keep Megan's mission alive.

"We have such a great local community that's always looking to help our local people and this is somebody who deserves help."

Tuesday night, Deano's on Bertrand is hosting a give back night, donating 10% of all sales to the mission in Haiti.

An account has been set up for donations at Capital One Bank in name of Respire Haiti.
