Acadia Parish: Heart Attack Survivor Meets First Responder Who Saved His LIfe

KATC was there for an emotional reunion between a heart attack victim and the woman responsible for saving his life.

Today, Harlan Kebodeaux got the chance to say thank you to volunteer fire fighter Lois Billiot.

"Without these volunteers, I wouldn't be here today," Kebodeaux said.

Less than a quarter of a mile up the road, Billiot and a group of volunteer fire fighters were having a meeting when they got the call.

"He was on the floor completely blue and in complete cardiac distress. I did a rapid assessment of him which proved he was not breathing and his heart was not beating, so I automatically started chest compressions on him," Billiot said.

Kebodeaux says he has enough to be thankful for this Thanksgiving season, but now he wants to pay it forward by helping others learn the importance of CPR.

In appreciation to the first responders in the community, Kebodeaux wanted to make sure others could learn CPR, for one of those "just in case" moments.

Kebodeaux along with the Heart Hospital of Lafayette and the Branch and Richard Fire Stations, will hold a free CPR training event.

The event is November 25, at 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Branch fire station.

To register, call (337) 521-1076.
