At a special meeting Tuesday, the Abbeville City Council voted to fire Officer William Proctor. Proctor has been on administrative leave since December, when he was involved in a shooting.
According to Abbeville Police Chief Tony Hardy, an internal affairs investigation found Proctor violated department policy, by failing to perform his duties in a satisfactory manner. Proctor's termination comes just two weeks after a grand jury found no evidence to indict Proctor in the case.
It was December 11th, when Proctor was on patrol on Messana Drive and a car drove by at a high-rate of speed. Proctor told investigators the driver refused to pull over, and fearing for the safety of residents he opened fire.
In all five shots were fired, but no one was hit. Witnesses told KATC a man, a woman, and two small children were in that vehicle.
Proctor could not be reached for comment.
