United Way of Acadiana's Early Head Start is holding a parent orientation and health fair for enrolled children Aug. 22 at the Abbeville Early Learning Center, 802 S. Valerie Street.
The parent orientation and health fair is from 9 to 11 a.m. for those enrolled in the center-based program and 1 to 3 p.m. for those enrolled in home-based. Free dental, hearing and vision screenings will be available, which is a required standard for all registrants, as well as access to fingerprinting for the children and a variety of health and wellness information.
The Abbeville Early Learning Center offers free on-site early childhood education services for qualifying families in Vermilion Parish with infants and toddlers up to 3 years of age, as well as prenatal services for expecting women. The program provides a wide range of experiences that foster learning and development in areas including social and emotional, physical and health, cognitive and general knowledge, and language and literacy.
"All children deserve to have an early head start to a great life," explained Margarette Derise, executive director of Early Head Start. "We look forward to the orientation to prepare the parents and children for the new year and to continue to provide them the foundational services that will ultimately lead to kindergarten readiness."
The new year begins Aug. 26. Space is limited, but applications are accepted year-round.
