Abbeville Chief Plans to Know Where Cars Are

ABBEVILLE, La. (AP) - Abbeville's new police chief says he's
going to put GPS units in squad cars to keep tabs on whether his
officers are patrolling, speeding, or idle for hours.
Chief Tony Hardy, who took office
three weeks ago, says he's had complaints about speeding police
cars.
He said the GPS units will tell him how fast a car is going, and
how long it sits at a certain location. The system will notify him
if a car is speeding.
Hardy says the units can be moved from car to car, and officers
won't know whether their car has one.
He also said he's trimmed overtime and is looking to get rid of
extra expenses.
