Those heading to the Ragin Cajun football game tomorrow will have a newly renovated stadium to look forward to.
About 7,000 new seats have been added, increasing the seating capacity at Cajun Field to about 38,000. This doesn't include standing room only. Tickets can be purchased until 6 p.m. today as well as at the gate on game day. But before you head to the game there are a few changes to know about.
"It's going to be an all encompassing entertainment event. Everything from tailgating outside and pre-gaming, to coming in and enjoying the game," UL Assistant Director for Athletic Marketing & Promotion Eric Maron said.
One of the biggest additions: a new score board
"It will allow us to have much more interaction with our fans. We will be able to do different things, whether it be posting contests or pictures on the screen," Maron said.
The fun doesn't stop there. A new patio area will have waiters on deck. These areas are designated in two suites and can be rented out on a reservation basis. There are also new concessions and restrooms.
When it comes to parking and tailgating RVs will only be allowed on the north end zone and certain tailgate areas will be blocked off to motorists after noon. Fans are encouraged to dispose any containers or cans into new recycle bins that are set up by the garbage cans in the parking lot.
"You can tailgate in your parking space, but you cannot extend farther than your parking space," Maron said.
Another new addition is cushioned seating. Fans can rent the seats out for $6 or $7 a game or purchase them with their season pass.
Any season ticket pass holders who are not using their ticket can now email the ticket to a friend. Fans can also purchase tickets on a smart phone.
"Don't print it out, just have your smart phone and have that scanned," Maron said.
Due to anticipated crowds for the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns' home football game against the Southern Jaguars on Saturday, Aug. 30, free parking will be available at many lots and garages on or near the UL Lafayette campus.
The University also will provide free shuttle runs from several locations. Shuttles will start at 10 a.m. and end one hour after the game is over. Passengers will be picked up and dropped off at several locations. For more information on parking view this article.
