Starting tomorrow your wallet gets a break when buying firearms, ammunition and hunting supplies. It's the 2nd Amendment Weekend Sales Tax Holiday, where both local and state sales taxes are exempt when purchasing hunting gear. It starts Friday and runs through Sunday.
Kennan Comeaux is gearing up for the savings.
"It's nice, kind of like a discount pretty much. No taxes, a lot off," Kennan Comeaux, a customer at Lafayette Shooters, said.
"I'm probably going to buy me a new shotgun," Comeaux said.
He's one of many customers, the store is expecting for one of the busiest weekends of the year. Lafayette Shooters says it will have extended hours this weekend starting Friday from 9am to 9pm.
"It's a matter of having enough salesmen here to facilitate the amount of customers that will be here," Lafayette Shooters General Manager Blake Boudreaux, said.
He says since the sales tax exemption weekend started back in 2009, he's seen sales go up 15 to 20 percent for the weekend.
"You know, here recently with the whole political climate and everything with gun sales, it's been really slow because of product. We haven't really caught back up to supply and demand, kind of dwindled away. It gives us a chance to catch up again," Boudreaux said.
