Two Lafayette soldiers-- Eddie Gautreau and Willie Celestine Jr.-- were honored and remembered this Memorial day at a service at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens in Lafayette.
Eddie Gautreau was a private in the U.S. Army who fought in the Korean War. He passed away last year, but without a proper military funeral-- so Monday he was finally honored.
"When we buried him we couldn't honor him that day because we didn't have the paperwork-- it takes 6 to 8 weeks-- so they said they'd honor him today for us," says his son, Duane Gautreau.
Willie Celestine Jr. is the most recent veteran killed in action to be buried at Greenlawn.
He was a corporal in the Marines, killed in an explosion in Iraq 2 years ago-- at just 21 years old.
"Our little nephew left at a young age and we're sad about that, but at the same time we know he was keeping us safe here in America," says his aunt.
Although it is hard, his mother stays positive:
"I'm excited that they honored my son-- he's in my heart and in my thoughts all the time," says Trudy Celestine.
