HOMER, La. (AP) - A Haynesville teenager has been booked with first-degree murder in the shooting death of Claiborne Parish Police Juror Brian "Butch" Bays.
Sheriff Ken Bailey told The Times that 19-year-old Donte Fielding was arrested Friday night and held at the Claiborne Parish Detention Center on a weapons charge over the weekend. The murder warrant was issued Monday following an interview with a witness in the case. At least one other suspect is being sought.
The 72-year-old Bays was shot multiple times in the back during an apparent robbery Dec. 16 at his store, Butch's Country Store and Bait House in Summerfield. Detectives say Fielding had worked odd jobs for Bays in the past.
Bailey says ballistics tests will be performed on the gun believed used in the shooting.
