The St.Mary Parish Sheriff's Office confirms the death of Rusty Sonnier, age 27. Sonnier was riding an ATV on L&B 5 Lane heading South when he collided with a BNSF train that was headed East. The victim, Rusty Sonnier, was in the Sorrell area when the accident occurred. The Sheriff's Office along with the St. Mary Parish Corners office will be conducting a full investigation into the accident. There is no further information at this time.

The Morgan City man accused of killing Mark Berthelot will go to trial on Aug. 6. Darby Mack Frickey is charged with second degree murder. Berthelot, of Bayou Vista, went missing in October, and a farmer found his body in November 2011 on Hwy 317 in Centerville. Frickey was arrested in December. "Darby had admitted to causing injuries to Mark resulting in his death," said St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert.

St. Mary Parish sheriff's deputies are working an accident on railroad tracks in the Four Corners area. According to the sheriff's office, the driver of a four wheeler ran into a train on LA 182 and L & B Road. Injuries are unknown at this time.

Sheriff's deputies in St. Mary Parish are looking for a suspect in a camp burglary. The incident took place at 12:45 P. M. On April 25 on Bayview Drive in Cypremort Point. A court has ruled a member of the Baldwin Board of Aldermen gets to keep his seat. The First Circuit Court of Appeal overturned a 16th Judcial District Court decision that removed Tony Gibson from office. The lower court ruled Gibson was ineligible due to a prior felony conviction. However, the circuit court ruled the district court's decision was improper because the challenges to Gibson's eligibility came after the seven-day period allowed by law.

Three cabins are being constructed at Lake End Park in Morgan City. They are being funded by the Atchafalaya Basin Program through the Louisiana Department of Natural Resources, and the City of Morgan City. Construction began April 17, 2012 and the cabins will be available to rent to the public, possibly as early as September 1, 2012.
